SEATTLE -
Gonzaga University men's and women's crew wrapped up its 2000 fall season on Sunday afternoon at the Head of the Lake Regatta at Montlake Cut in Seattle. The regatta consisted of varsity and junior varsity boats from several schools and rowing clubs in the region.
Gonzaga's men's varsity 8 had the most successful outing of the day narrowly edging the University of British Columbia by a tenth of a second to claim fourth place in the Men's Varsity 8 race on the 5,000 meter course. The University of Washington men's 8 defeated the University of Victoria for first place with Oregon State coming in third.
The men's junior varsity 8 boat competed well in the competition with a fifth place finish. The boat consisted of four men's novice rowers and pulled one of its best times of the fall season. Washington's A boat won the event with Oregon State taking second place.
A young women's varsity 8 finished ninth in the Women's Varsity 8 race. Washington's women's varsity eight blew past the entire field winning the event by nearly 20 seconds over second place Victoria.
Gonzaga's women's junior varsity eight was also a mixture of veteran and novice rowers with 5 novices making up the boat. The crew finished in eighth place as Washington made it a sweep on the day winning the event by one second over the University of California.
