MEDICAL LAKE, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's and women's rowing teams will make their second straight and final home appearance of the season Saturday when the University of California Davis visits.
The dual regatta will begin at 10 a.m. at Silver Lake. The regatta starting time was moved an hour later from its previously scheduled start.
Although Gonzaga and UC Davis have not raced head-to-head this season, both schools were at the San Diego Crew Classic two weeks ago.
The Aggie women are one of the top NCAA Division II programs on the West Coast, winning the Women's Collegiate II/III title in San Diego in 7:01.07 over the 2,000-meter course. The Gonzaga women finished sixth in the Women's Cal Cup Grand Final in San Diego in 6:59.23.
On the men's side, UC Davis captured the Copley Cup in San Diego in 6:12.70. The Bulldog men were fifth in the Men's Cal Cup in 6:17.90.
"There should be some great races," Gonzaga Director of Rowing and head men's coach Dan Gehn said. "It will be a good test for us before we enter the WIRA's. UC Davis always fields strong boats."
Gonzaga's women's varsity eight defeated UC Davis last season, while the Aggie men edged the Bulldogs.
The Bulldog women will go for their sixth straight West Coast Conference championship May 3 on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif., with the WCC men's crews also having an "unofficial" WCC championship that day. The WCC does not sponsor men's rowing, but the coaches have organized the "unofficial" WCC championship.
The Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA) regatta will be held May 4-5 also on the Lake Natoma course.
