MALIBU, Calif. - The No. 1 seeded Pepperdine Waves defeated the No. 8 Gonzaga University Bulldogs in the first round of the West Coast Conference Tennis Tournament Friday morning at Pepperdine.
GU's Leigh Orne won in the sixth singles spot by default to earn the Bulldogs lone point of the day.
Tournament host Pepperdine has clinched 14 team titles in the past 15 years of WCC tournament play. They are currently ranked 50th in the ITA national rankings.
Gonzaga continues tournament action Saturday morning.
