Young Women's Golf Team Opens Season In 16th Place

FORT COLLINS, Colo - A young Gonzaga Bulldogs women's golf team opened the 2003 fall season in 16th place after the first day of competition at the Colorado State/Ptarmigan Classic in Fort Collins, Colo. The travel squad consisted of two first-year golfers as head coach Robert Gray looks to replace departed senior golfer Kate Siddell.

Mary Kate Morgan led the Gonzaga quartet with back-to-back rounds of 78 and 77 to stand tied for 47th place as Gonzaga compiled a team total of 652 with rounds of 323 and 330. Kelsey Posedel shot the next best round for the Bulldogs as she opened with a 79 before shooting a second round 84 to drop into a tie for 68th place.

The University of San Francisco leads the event as Kristi Larson leads all golfers with a two-round total of 139 which included a hole in one in her second round. Nevada and host Colorado State round out the top three teams while Alana Condon of Nevada stands in second and USF's Nikki Jacoby sits in third.

Gonzaga's remaining golfers are Carrie DeGree in a tie for 71st, Erin Picht in a tie for 82nd and first-year golfer Jennifer Swamson in a tie for 87th. The tournament will wrap up on Tuesday morning with a shot-gun start at the par 72 Ptarmigan Golf Course.
