Rowing Competes In Head Of The Lake Regatta

SPOKANE, Wash. - The Gonzaga University men's and women's rowing teams will head to Seattle to compete in the annual Head of the Lake Regatta at Montlake Cut near the University of Washington campus set for Sunday morning. The men will enter a varsity eight and junior varsity eight in the regatta while the women will enter two varsity fours, a junior varsity eight and a third varsity eight boat. The Head of the Lake will wrap up the 2004 Fall racing season for the Bulldogs.
Gonzaga's two men's boats will be comprised of coxswain Lauren Gadeken, stroke Connor Barry, Pat Haffey, Ben Foley, Nathan Wilson, Matthew Wernette, Derek Clemmensen, Matthew White and box David Hinshaw in the varsity eight. Coxswain Mara Oblak, stroke Joe Dudley, Warren North, Scott McCoy, Brett Bossevain, Ben Rosenblatt, Michael Smoot, Justin Bayley and bow Drew Hastings will make up the junior varsity eight.
On the women' side Gonzaga's two varsity fours will consist of coxswain Erin Palmiter, stroke Kari Durgan, Karen O'Hagen, Nicole Aadland-Lewis and bow Jessica Kocarnik in one boat and coxswain Melissa Refuerzo, stroke Jenni Cooper, Sarah Allison, Brianna Morin and bow Kelsey Koenig in the other boat. The junior varsity eight will include coxswain Joan Aubry, stroke Maria Fussell, Brittany Price, Teresa Archuleta, Julie Smetana, Cory Nelson, Kathryn Kocarnik, Mariah Smith-Miloff and bow Jessica Uphoff. The Bulldogs third varsity eight includes coxswain Kris Lund, stroke Liz Sambach, Rebecca Jensen, Whitney Patrick, Ann Parker, Courtney Haia, Stephanie Murphy, Jessica Michaels and bow Kelsey Raap.
Start times for each race will be released by the Lake Washington Rowing Club on Friday afternoon. The men's varsity eight race includes boats from Oregon State University, UC Davis, University of British Columbia, University of Victoria, University of Washington, Washington State University and Pocock Rowing Club. The men's junior varsity race has boats from Oregon State, Pacific Lutheran University, UC Davis, British Columbia, University of Puget Sound, U Victoria, Western Washington University, Washington and Washington State
The women's races include Oregon State, Evergreen State College, Washington, Western Washington, U Victoria and Washington State in the junior varsity eight. Lake Union Rowing Club, Pocock Rowing Club, Simon Fraser University, Evergreen State College, U Victoria, British Columbia, University of Portland, Washington, Washington State and Vancouver Rowing Club make up the third varsity eight field. Stanford University, University of Oregon, British Columbia, Portland, Washington, Washington State, Western Washington and the USA Juniors make up the varsity four entries.
