Women's Tennis Edges Montana, 4-3

MISSOULA, Mont. - University of Montana won three singles matches, but the Gonzaga University women's tennis team swept doubles play to edge the Lady Griz, 4-3, on Friday afternoon. The Bulldogs improved to 10-11 with one match left in the season before the West Coast Conference Championships.
Jamie Buterbaugh and Angela Fry led the way for Gonzaga in doubles play with their 8-3 win over Annabelle Janairo and Michaela Zima. Leigh Orne and Sirrah Williams followed with their 8-5 win in the No. 2 spot over Lindsey Torgerson and Jonna Schwartz, and Katie Sanders and Florence Wasko completed the sweep with an 8-6 win over Bonny Bower and Colby Fannin.
Buterbaugh led off the singles play for the Bulldogs with her 7-6, 6-4 win over Janairo in the No. 1 spot. Fry defeated Zima at No. 2 with a 6-1, 6-3 win and Williams clinched the match with her win over Fannin, 7-5, 6-4 at the No. 4. Montana earned their three points with wins by Torgerson over Orne (6-3, 6-4), Schwartz over Sanders (7-5, 6-4) and Rosen over Connie Head (7-5, 6-4).
Gonzaga hosts its last home match of the season against Lewis-Clark State College on Saturday, April 17 at 11 a.m. at Martin Courts. The men's tennis team will also play Lewis-Clark at Martin Courts simultaneously.
