Munroe Tied For Ninth After 36 Holes

USAFA, Colo. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team opened the 2004 season Friday at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational and the Bulldogs find themselves in the middle of the pack after 36 holes.
The tournament is being played at the par 71, 7,239-yard Eisenhower-Blue Course on the grounds of the United States Air Force Academy.
The Bulldogs shot a 298-292 for a 36-hole total of 590 for seventh place in the 15-team field heading into Saturday's remaining 18 holes. The Bulldogs are one stroke behind the University of Utah; three shots behind Boise State University and Utah Valley State University, and five shots behind Weber State University and Grand Canyon University. Southern Utah State University shot a 286-291 for a 577 and an 8-stroke lead over Weber State and Grand Canyon.
The top individual Bulldog effort of the day was turned in by Matt Munroe who shot a 72-73 - 145 for a six-player logjam at ninth. Jeff Franks of the University of Wyoming was the first-day leader at 138 after rounds of 68 and 70. He holds a 4-stroke lead over Southern Uthat State University teammates Kenny Ebalo and Zach Johnson who are at 142.
Freshman Reyn Tanaka was tied for 16th in his Gonzaga debut. He had rounds of 73-74 for a 147.
