Men's Crew Sweeps Head Of The Snake

PULLMAN, Wash. - For the second time in ten days Gonzaga University swept all the days races against Washington State University as the Bulldogs won all five races at Wednesday's Head of the Snake regatta at Wawawai Landing just outside of Pullman. Earlier this racing season Gonzaga swept all the events when the two schools met at the Head of the Spokane. GU will wrap up its fall racing season on Sunday, Nov. 13, when they compete in the Head of the Lake in Seattle.
Gonzaga won both varsity events opening the day with a 22-second win the varsity 4+. Gonzaga's varsity 4+ rowed the 5,000 meter course in a time of 19:24 while WSU crossed at 19:46. Gonzaga's varsity 8+ posted an even more impressive win with a time of 17:01 to defeat WSU's top boat by 33 seconds. The Cougars were in at 17:34.
In addition to two wins in the varsity races, Gonzaga swept all three novice 8+ races. The Zags top novice 8+ won their race in a time of 17:55 to defeat WSU by 53-seconds. WSU's top boat rowed a time of 18:48. Gonzaga continued its large margin of victory in both the other novice races winning by 1 minute 36 seconds in the second novice 8+ race and 1 minute 5 seconds in the third novice 8+ race. Gonzaga's second novice boat rowed a time of 19:10 while the third novice boat rowed a time of 19:30 as the race course offered flat racing conditions with minimal wind.
