Bulldog Golfers Last In Seattle

AUBURN, Wash. - Gonzaga University's men's golf team is in last place after 18 holes of the nine-team Washington Winter Championship Monday.

The Bulldogs shot a 321 for ninth, seven strokes behind eighth-place University of Portland with a 314. The University of Oregon leads with a 299.

Jimmy Hayes is the top Bulldog with a 76, good for a six-way tie for 14th. Matt Munroe is in a logjam at 79 good for a tie for 26th. Oregon's Jay Snyder and the University of Idaho's Ty Popplewell each shot a 70 to tie for the 18-hole lead over the par 72, 7,299-yard Washington National Golf Course.

Play was delayed until almost noon on Monday because of frost, so the scheduled two rounds were not completed. With frost also anticipated for Tuesday morning, plans are for the field to complete the second round on Tuesday and have the tournament cut short to a 36-hole event rather than the scheduled 54 holes.
