Zags Come From Behind for 8-6 Win

FRESNO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University baseball team (12-7) scored four runs in the eighth inning to complete a 8-6 come from behind win over Penn State University (4-6) in the third-place game of the Pepsi/Johnny Quick Classic at Beiden Field Saturday afternoon.

With the Bulldogs trailing 5-4 heading into the bottom of the eighth inning, Gonzaga's bats came alive as they scored four runs on three hits. The Zags knotted the score at five on Mike Terry's RBI single to right field which brought across Aaron McGuinness, who had walked. The Bulldogs would take the lead on Kiel Thibault's bases-loaded walk and would cap the scoring for the inning on Bobby Carlson's two-run single to left field.

The Nittany Lions would take a run back in the ninth inning on Lance Thompson's RBI double to right field, but would come no closer as Gonzaga's Nate Williams would ice the remaining two batters to record his third save of the season allowing no hits in 0.2 innings of work.

Offensively for the Bulldogs Thibault went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double, Terry went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double and Shawn Wayt went 2-for-5 with two runs scored.

Josh Bryant (2-0) picked up the win for the Bulldogs as he allowed one run on five hits in 4.1 innings of work. PSU's Clint Eury (1-2) was saddled with the loss for the Nittany Lions as he allowed three runs on three hits in one inning of work.

The Bulldogs will return to action on Mar. 18 in their home opener at 2 p.m. against Saint Mary's College at Avista Stadium.
