GOODYEAR, Ariz. - The Gonzaga University women's golf team moved up the leader board Tuesday as the Bulldogs climbed into a tie for 8th after second round play at the Bobcat Desert Classic at Palm Valley Golf Course. Gonzaga shot a 308 to stand at 620 with the final round scheduled for Wednesday.
The University of Idaho leads the team competition with a 597 followed by Boise State University at 600. Western Michigan University dropped to fourth place while the University of Montana is tied with Gonzaga in eighth place. West Coast Conference rival the University of Portland is three strokes ahead of Gonzaga in 7th.
Freshman Lacey Jo Manwaring continued her solid play with a second round 76 falling from a seven-way tie for second to a tie for sixth. Manwaring fired an even par 72 on Monday and lead the five GU golfers with a 148. Mary Kate Morgan regrouped from a first round 81 to shoot a team-best 75 and move into a tie for 35th. Sarah Sheffield also stands tied for 35th for the Bulldogs. Jennifer Swanson and Sarah Clarke round out the group of competing Zags.
Katie Street of Boise State finished with her second round of 72 to stand alone in first place. Street was part of the seven-way tie for second after the first round. Opening day leader Jody Chandonnet of Grand Canyon College shot a 79 to fall into a tie for 12th.
