Women's Crew Wins Three Races At NCRC Invitational

LAKE VANCOUVER, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's and women's crew picked up four wins in five events at the NCRC Invitational held on a choppy course at Lake Vancouver Saturday. The men entered a junior varsity boat which had an easy win while the women picked up victories in the varsity 8+, junior varsity 8+ and novice 8+. Gonzaga's varsity 4+ was third in its event.
The varsity women's boat picked up a close victory over Western Washington University as the Bulldogs were able to pull through the finish line to win by 4-tenths of a second in a closely contested race. Gonzaga crossed the line at 7:30.1 followed by WWU at 7:30.5. The University of Puget Sound was third just two-seconds behind the leaders at 7:32.11. Humboldt State University was a distance fourth nearly 20-seconds behind the lead pack.
In the junior varsity 8+, Gonzaga's junior varsity and third varsity boats crossed the line one, two as the Bulldogs easily won the event. The junior varsity boat was in at 7:58.14 with the third varsity boat at 8:02.75. Puget Sound was again third at 8:08.95 followed by Western Washington in fourth.
Gonzaga's women's novice 8+ continued its strong season with a commanding victory over second place Long Beach State University. GU posted a time of 8:08.97 with LBSU in at 8:21.39. Orange Coast College was third followed by the University of Oregon.
The only event Gonzaga did not win that it entered a boat in was the varsity 4+. Long Beach State edged out Oregon State University with LBSU finishing at 8:33.1 and OSU at 8:33.55. Gonzaga was a solid third at 8:37.33 with Oregon in fourth.
The junior varsity men also competed in the event while the Bulldogs varsity boat was competing at the San Diego Crew Classic. Gonzaga had a 15-second margin over second place Puget Sound as Gonzaga rowed a time of 8:30.41 with UPS in at 8:45.3. Lewis and Clark College was third in the race.
