Crew Competes In Blue Cup Regatta

SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's and women's crew will head to Bellingham, Wash., this weekend to compete against Western Washington University in the Blue Cup Regatta. The two schools have been competing against each other for several years and this year have created the Blue Cup Trophy to be presented to the annual winner of the varsity men's and women's races. Racing will start at 9:50 a.m. at the Lake Samish course with the Blue Cup Trophy presentation at 12:30 p.m. following the varsity races.

Racing will consist of races in the varsity 8+, junior varsity 8+, novice 8+ and varsity 4+. The Bulldogs will race two boats in the junior varsity women's event with their JV 8+ and third varsity 8+ entered in the race. Gonzaga won nine of 10 races against Western Washington last year at Silver Lake and the Gonzaga women edged WWU by .4 seconds at last week's NCRC Invitational at Lake Vancouver. The Gonzaga men's varsity 8+ is coming off a third place finish in the Cal Cup at the San Diego Crew Classic.
