Women's Golf Struggles On First Day

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Gonzaga University had just four sub-80 rounds Monday as the Bulldogs opened the season at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic.

The Bulldogs were in 16th at 638 after 36 holes. The Bulldogs skied to rounds of 325 and 313. Baylor University leads heading into Tuesday's final round with a 564, good for an 18-stroke lead over the University of New Mexico. Fresno State University and Colorado State University are tied for third at 585.

Junior Mary Kate Morgan had a 74-75 for 149 over the 6,113-yard, par 72 Ptarmigan Country Club layout to tie for 25th heading into Tuesday's final 18 holes. The only other sub-80 rounds for the Bulldogs came in the second round when freshman Elizabeth Jarrett shot 78 and junior Jennifer Swanson a 79.

Josefin Svenningsson of Baylor is the individual leader with a 138 after rounds of 70-68. She has a 2-stroke lead over teammate Sian Riddick and the University of Nebraska's Stephanie Ruiz.
