Bulldog Duo Falls In Semifinals

Missoula, Mont. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis doubles team of Emily Anderson and Kendall Bates were unable to advance out of the semifinals of the main doubles draw Sunday on the final day of the University of Montana Fall Tournament in Missoula, Mont.
The tournament featured women's teams from the University Idaho, Montana State University -Billings, Gonzaga and Montana State University.
The GU duo of Anderson and Bates advanced to the semifinals with a victory Saturday, but were unable to advance to the final round, falling 6-3 to Montana's Mari Castello and Liz Walker.
Anderson also continued play Sunday in the quarterfinals of the singles main draw. The match between Anderson and Castello had been started Saturday was forced to be postponed due to weather. Anderson and Castello battled in the match, with Castello prevailing in three sets (5-7, 7-5, 7-6(2)).
In the backdraw of the singles bracket, Carrie Schofield fell to Montana's Jessica Souza (6-4, 6-4) in the quarterfinals. The match was also delayed from Saturday due to inclement weather. In the semifinals of the backdraws, Erin Humphrey fell in straight sets to Cheyne Urisch of Montana (6-4, 6-1).
The Bulldogs will hit compete against at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Regional held Oct. 21-23 in Berkeley, Calif.
