SPOKANE, Wash. - Fighting wet weather that plagued most of the Spokane area on Saturday, Gonzaga University still managed to have a strong showing at the Whitworth Invitational. The Bulldogs picked up wins in two races and posted Top 5 finishes in three other events.
Senior runner Emily Buck won the women's 1,500 meter run with a time of 4:51.84. She defeated Emily Timmer of Puget Sound by four seconds. Jamie Schiel finished 11th in the 1,500 meters and Debra Emery 15th.
Colby Litzenberger was the top runner on the men's side with a five second win over Stephen Peacock of Puget Sound in the 5,000 meter run. Litzenberger crossed with a time of 15:31.55.
Also on the women's side Kara Rasmussen placed fourth in the 800 meter run while Nellie Ballou was a fourth place finisher in the 5,000 meter run. Lindsay Hallvik, Libby Brands and Amanda Gillman also competed in the 5,000 meter run for the Zags women.
Ken Santman paced three Gonzaga runners in the 1,500 meter run with a fourth place finish. Eric Mendoza was 7th and Gabe Hayden 11th in the 1,500 meters. Mendoza also placed 10th in the 800 meter run.
