Bulldogs Fall at Head of the Snake

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing team fell to Washington State University for the second consecutive week Friday at the Head of the Snake hosted by the Cougars.
In the first flight, the Cougar Varsity 8+ finished the 5,000-meter course in a time of 20:22.49. The Coug Varsity 8+ was followed by the WSU 2nd Varsity 8+ which closed out the course with a time of 20:29.75.
With the Bulldog Varsity 8+ in Sacramento for the Head of the American on Saturday, the Gonzaga 2nd Varsity 8+ boat raced as the Varsity 8+ and placed third finishing 13 seconds later with a finish of 20:42.37. The Gonzaga 2nd Varsity 8+, which was actually the 3rd Varsity 8+, crossed the finish line with a time of 21:04.87.
The Zag 2nd Varsity 8+, racing as the Varsity 8+, closed the margin on Washington State's 2nd Varsity 8+ from the Head of the Spokane. The Bulldogs fell to the Cougars last weekend by 15 seconds but was able to shave off two seconds today, falling to Washington State by only 13 ticks.
The 3rd Varsity 8+, racing as the 2nd Varsity 8+, actually beat the time of the Cougars 3rd Varsity 8+. Gonzaga closed out the course in 21:04.87, while Washington State finished in 21:06.63.
The Novice 8+ and the 2nd Novice 8+ crews both faced off in the first flight. WSU earned the victory in both races with the Novice 8+ finishing in a time of 22:50.19. Gonzaga closed out the course 31 seconds later at 23:21.48. The WSU 2nd Novice 8+ earned a sizable four-minute victory over the Bulldogs.
Gonzaga earned its lone victory of the race in the 4th Novice 8+ race. The Zags finished the course in 25:40.26., 28 seconds ahead of the Cougars.
The Bulldogs will be in action tomorrow when they participate in the Head of the American hosted by Sacramento State University at Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif.
