Sibbitt Paces Women's Golf Through 18 holes

HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Freshmen continue to pace Gonzaga University's women's golf team after Rachel Sibbitt shot an opening-round 75 Monday to tie for 16th of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i.
Sibbitt, of Mill Valley, Calif., was 3-over par on the 5,907-yard, par 72 Kane'ohe Klipper Golf Course.
The Bulldogs didn't fare as well as a team, tied for 12th with the University of Memphis at 316 and well off the pace of first-round leader University of Arizona, the Wildcats coming in with a 2-under par 286 for a 1-stroke lead over Oklahoma State University.
Sage Suffecool, another freshman who last week won the UC Santa Cruz Invitational, for the Bulldogs, was in a logjam in 39th after a 78.
Alison Walshe of Arizona holds a 5-shot lead over teammate Amanda Wilson. Walshe shot a 6-under par 66.
The tournament continues Tuesday and Wednesday with 18 holes each day.
