Women's Tennis Drops 6-1 Decision

Spokane, Wash. - Aglaya Kokurina earned a singles victory but it wasn't enough as the Gonzaga University women's tennis team fell 6-1 to Northern Arizona University Saturday at the Spokane Racquet Club in Spokane, Wash.
NAU (10-7) jumped out to an early lead, sweeping all three doubles matches. At No. 1, Edit Suhajda and Orsi Golovics posted an 8-6 victory over GU's (3-8) Emily Anderson and Kokurina. Clare Dodge and Danielle Farmer of Gonzaga fell 8-3 at No. 2 to Amiee Oki and Stephanie Vallejos. The Lumberjacks completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory by Kim Van Ginkel and Leslie Vial at No. 3 over Rika Mehndiratta and Kristen MacWilliam.
In singles play, Kokurina earned the Zags' lone point with a straight set 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 2 over Golovics. At No. 1, Anderson rallied in the second set but wasn't able to pull off the three-set victory over Suhajda, 6-3, 2-6, 6-1. Mehndiratta dropped a 6-3, 6-1 match at No. 3 to Vallejos, while Dodge was unable to hold on to an early lead falling 5-7, 6-3, 6-2 to Stacey Pinchbeck at No. 4. MacWilliam dropped a 6-1, 6-3 decision at No. 5 to Van Ginkel, while Farmer rounded out play with a 6-3, 6-1 loss to Vial at No. 6.
The Bulldogs will return to the courts Wednesday at Cal State Baskerfield as they embark on a spring break trip to California.
