Veterans Turn In Sold Showings In Outdoor Track Opener

SPOKANE, Wash. - Veterans had solid showings Saturday as Gonzaga University's track team officially opened the outdoor season at the Dusty Lane Open hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane.
Sophomore Laura Volcheff finished second in the women's 5,000 meters in a personal-best 18:14.84. Junior Molly Funk finished fifth in the event in 18:31.01, also a personal best.
On the men's side, junior Brett Withers finished third in the 1,500 meters in a personal-best 4:09.58.
A couple of newcomers also stood out in the opener.
Freshman Jared Graham finished third in the 800 meters in 2:00.69 and fellow freshman Hans Hagmeier was fifth in 2:02.05. Graham's time was the best since Baraka Poulin ran a 1:58.60 in 2005.
