Zags Defeat Santa Clara Twice At Pac-10 Challenge

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. - The Gonzaga University men's crew team hit the water six times on Saturday at the Pac-10 Challenge presented by Windermere Real Estate and hosted by Stanford University on Redwood Shores in Redwood City, Calif. The Zags Varsity 8+ claimed a victory over Santa Clara University in its first race of the day, while the Junior Varsity 8+ also earned a victory over the Broncos.
The Bulldog Varsity 8+ defeated the Broncos by three seconds, finishing the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:01.7. Santa Clara closed out the course in 6:04.6.
The Varsity 8+ fell to Northeastern University in its afternoon race, as the Huskies had a time of 6:04.8, while the Zags were clocked in at 615.9.
After falling to Stanford in its first race, the Junior Varsity 8+ was able to bounce back and take a 15 second victory over Santa Clara to help Gonzaga earn its second win of the day. GU finished in a time of 6:41.4. SCU had a time of 6:56.1.
The Freshman 8+ battled Stanford tough in its afternoon race, crossing the finishing line just four seconds behind the Cardinals. In their first race of the day, the Zags fell to University of California, who was one of two boats to finish under six minutes against Gonzaga.
The Bulldogs will round out the Pac-10 Challenge Sunday as all three boats face UCLA.
