VALLEJO, Calif. - Gonzaga University's Rachel Sibbitt, 11th in last year's West Coast Conference Women's Golf Championship, finds herself tied for sixth after Monday's 36 holes at Hiddenbrooke Golf Course.
Sibbitt was the lone Bulldog to put together two solid rounds, shooting 76-77 for 153 over the 5,974-year, par 72 layout. The sophomore started the day with birdie, bogey, double bogey then posted 11 pars and a birdie over the final 15 holes of round one. She had 12 pars and a birdie in the second round.
Sibbitt and Kaitlin Drolson of Pepperdine are one shot behind Meaghan Kari of Santa Clara University for fifth.
Sophomore Sage Suffecool and freshman Stephanie Corey are tied for 17th at 160 for the Bulldogs, Suffecool shooting 80-80 while Corey had 81-79. Freshman Jessica Howe is 20th at 161 and senior Elizabeth is 22nd at 164.
"Rachel was solid all day," head coach Brad Rickel said. "Overall we didn't have our best day, but I'm confident we'll come out tomorrow and post our best round of the tournament."
The Bulldogs find themselves fourth in the team standings with rounds of 317-314 for 631, 12 shots behind third-place Santa Clara heading into Tuesday's final round. Gonzaga is 15 shots ahead of last-place University of Portland as only five WCC schools sponsor women's golf.
Pepperdine University, in search of its eighth consecutive title and 10th in the 12 years the WCC has sponsored the championship, has the lead at 602 for a 1-stroke advantage over the University of San Francisco, holder of the two conference titles the Waves haven't won.
The Waves Jayvie Agojo is the individual leader at 146 after rounds of 72-74 for a 4-shot lead over USF teammates Christina Stockton and Danielle Cvitanov.
