Incoming Freshman Johnsen Tied For Second In Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. - Gonzaga University incoming freshmen Travis Johnsen of Wilsonville is tied for second after the opening round Friday of the 57th Oregon Men's Stroke Play Championship at Emerald Valley Golf Club.

Johnsen shot a 3-under par 69 over the 7,138-yard layout to tie with Happy Valley's Tyler Simpson. Defending champion Andrew Vijarro of Bend holds a 1-shot lead after shooting an opening-round 68.

Johnsen had four birdies and a bogey. All of his birdies came on the par 5's, including the 577-yard closing hole.

The 54-hole tournament continues Saturday and Sunday.
