Bulldogs Continue Play At WSU Cougar Classic

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team continued play at the WSU Cougar Classic Saturday afternoon.
The doubles pairing of Jackie Tabb and Kristina Zauere led the Zags with a win in the consolation round of the Gray bracket. Other Bulldogs who later posted singles victories in some backdraw matches were Clare Dodge and Britta Stime who earned two wins on the day.
After taking the first two matches to advance to Saturday's third round, the doubles pairing of Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer dropped their third round match to have their run come to an end. The doubles pairing of Clare Dodge and Gabrielle Verspieren also played a tough third match of the weekend but dropped an 8-4 decision to a good doubles team from Montana State.
"We played with a lot more intensity and focus in both our singles and doubles matches today," commented head coach D.J. Gurule. "We were able to finish the weekend with a couple of wins in some of the backdraws so it was good to finish the first weekend on a high note."
Next weekend the Bulldogs and Eastern Washington University will co-host the GU/EWU Fall Tournament held in Cheney, Wash. which begins Friday.
