Zags Close Out Perfect Weekend With 6-1 Win

OGDEN, Utah - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team closed out a perfect weekend with a 6-1 non-conference victory at Weber State University Sunday. The Zags, now 4-1 to start the season, beat Utah State University 4-3 on Saturday and now have won four straight matches.
"This was from top-to-bottom, our best outing of the season," stated head coach D.J. Gurule. "We did a great job of taking control of each match from the start against a very good Weber State team. I am very excited how we have played in the first two weeks of the season and we are looking forward to getting back to Spokane and playing a couple home matches in front of our fans next weekend."
Once again the Zags were able to jump out to an early lead by taking two of the three doubles matches led by the No. 1 tandem of Rika Mehndiratta and Danielle Farmer who improved to 4-1 on the season with an impressive 8-4 win. The Zags No. 3 duo of newcomer Jackie Tabb and Sophie Lantta were even more dominating, posting an 8-1 victory to record their second win in as many days.
The Bulldogs were equally impressive in singles play, taking five of the six matches led by newcomer Prue Teitzel who won at No. 4 singles to improve her overall record to 5-0. Gonzaga also had Mehndiratta pick up her fourth win of the season with a 7-5 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Kristina Zauere later won at No. 2 singles as did Clare Dodge at No. 5 and Sophie Lantta rounded out the lineup with a win at No. 6.
The Zags will play their first set of home matches at the Spokane Racquet Club next weekend, hosting University of Idaho 6 p.m. Friday and Eastern Washington University 3 p.m. Saturday.
