Zags Fall To Washington State at Head of the Snake

PULLMAN, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing team fell to Washington State University for the second consecutive week at the Head of the Snake, hosted by the Cougars on Friday at Wawawai Landing in Pullman, Wash.
In the women's first flight of the day - the races second flight overall - Washington State had the three fastest times. The Cougar Varsity 8+ finished the 5,000-meter course that had a light headwind, in 17:46.24. The WSU Second Varsity 8+ and Third Varsity then clocked in at 18:12.62 and 18:29.78, respectively. The Bulldogs Varsity 8+ had the fourth fastest time of the flight at 18:35.80.
The Second Novice 8+, racing together for only the second time, had a strong finish of 20:05.32, beating the both WSU novice boats. The closest Cougar novice finished with a time of 20:27.22.
The Head of the Snake race is a "head" format, which means the boats started at 15 second intervals, racing both the clock and each other.
In the fourth flight of the day, the Third Varsity 8+ had the second fastest time at 20:11.71, behind the Washington State Fourth Varsity 8+ (19:18.03).
"A little improvement was made over the course of this week," stated head coach Melissa Flint after the race." We have over a week now to continue to make improvements for our final race of the fall - The Head of the Lake."
Gonzaga closes out its fall racing next Sunday when it partakes in Head of the Lake, hosted by the University of Washington.
