EUGENE, Ore. - Gonzaga University's Hans Hagmeier broke four minutes in the men's 1500 meters for the first time in his career Saturday, finishing fourth at the Oregon Twilight in 3:56/95 as less than a second separated the top four finishers.
Walker Augustyniak of the host Ducks won in 3:56.33.
Hagmeier's previous best was 4:00.50 earlier this season at the Buc Scoring Invite at Spokane's Whitworth College.
The Bulldogs also had four other competitors in the Oregon Twilight. Laura Volcheff finished third in the women's 5000 meters in 17:31.72 as she knocked 10 seconds off her career best of 17:41.68 set earlier this year at the Duane Hartman Invitational hosted by the Community Colleges of Spokane. Brittany O'Regan finished sixth in 17:56.21 and Brenn Donnelly was ninth in 18:09.82.
In the men's 5000, Chris Boyle and Brett Withers tied for 10th in 15:11.13 as both set career bests. Boyle's previous PR was 15:11.23 at the Duane Hartman Invitational this year, while Withers improved his previous PR of 15:20.29 by better than nine seconds.
The Bulldogs also had competitors at the Vandal Jamboree hosted by the University of Idaho and at the Ken Shannon Invitational hosted by the University of Washington.
In Moscow, Idaho, Patrick Richie broke the 10-minute barrier in the 10,000 meter steeplechase, finishing fourth in 9:51.00 for the best time by a Bulldog this year.
Lacey Nation led a 1-2-3 Bulldog sweep in the women's 5000 meters at the Vandal Jamboree. She won in 18:49.68 with Jaime Van Lith second in 19:40.26 and Molly Moore third in 19:55.56.
In Seattle, Jared Gregorio and Ian Berge finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in Section 4 of the men's 1500 meters. Gregorio finished in 4:13.12 with Berge crossing the line in 4:15.96.
