SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University freshman-to-be Peter Gullickson has qualified for the USGA Junior Amateur golf championship July 19-24 at Egypt Valley Country Club in Ada, Mich.
Gullickson, a graduate of Spokane's Lewis and Clark High School, shot back-to-back rounds of 73 Monday at his home course of Manito Golf and Country Club to earn the top local qualifying spot. He finished two shots ahead of Tyler Carlson of Clarkston who earned the other qualifying spot.
Egypt Valley CC will be a 7,111-yard, par 72 layout for the championship, the first USGA Junior Championship to be held at the course. Egypt Valley features a pair of 18-hole layouts and for the U.S. Junior Amateur, with both the Ridge and Valley courses being utilized. Holes one through nine will be the inward nine of the Ridge and holes 10 through 18 will be the inward nine of the Valley. It's the same routing the Champions Tour used when its tournament was held at the club from 1994-2004.
There will be 36 holes of stroke play over two days, with the top 64 qualifiers advancing to match play leading up to the 36-hole championship July 24.
