SPOKANE, Wash. - Mike Gore, a member of the men's rowing team, was recently named December's Zag-of-the-Month. The Dean's List senior carries over a 3.0 cumulative GPA and will graduate this spring with a degree in business administration and concentrations in human resource management and finance.
A stand-out team leader, Gore has been an integral member of the men's crew squad the last three seasons. As a freshman, he was a member of the second novice 8+. During Gore's sophomore campaign he rowed with the varsity 4+, and as a junior, he helped the junior varsity 8+ team to a second place finish at the 2010 WIRA Championships and the Fawley Cup. Gore also assisted the varsity 8+ in successful finishes at the Head of Spokane and the UCSD/USD Regatta during the 2010 season.
Gore's rapport with the team and leadership style of leading by example will be key to the team's success during the upcoming spring season.
A Fullerton, Calif., native, Gore has shown continued involvement through several service opportunities. He has volunteered with the following: the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation's Walk to Cure Diabetes, Union Gospel Mission meal servings, Habitat for Humanity home builds, Soles4Souls Shoe Drive, and Meals on Wheels. Gore also participated in the Gonzaga in Florence Study Abroad program.
A student-athlete selected as Zag-of-the-Month exhibits effort and excellence in academics, leadership, integrity, campus involvement, community service, dedication to team, and the ability to serve as a role model for current and future GU students and student-athletes. Each month GU's SAAC nominates and selects one of their peers for the award.
