Dodge and Lantta Post Wins In Zags Loss To Montana

BOZEMAN, Mont. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team dropped a 5-2 non-conference match to the University of Montana Friday at Bozeman, Mont. Senior Clare Dodge and junior Sophie Lantta each posted their third singles win of the spring season.
Dodge posted a 6-2, 6-1 win over Ashley Mackey at No. 5 doubles while Lantta defeated Lauren Gibson 6-4, 6-3 at the No. 6 spot.
Senior Danielle Farmer, who made her first singles appearance of the 2010-11 season, had a hard-fought battle with Whitney Paluch at No. 4 singles. After dropping the first set 7-6 (6), Farmer won the second 6-4 to force a third. Paluch won the close match 7-6 (4).
The Bulldogs (2-2) couldn't get the doubles point as the Grizzlies (1-3) swept all three matches. Dodge and junior Kristina Zauere led the effort at the No. 2 spot but dropped an 8-6 decision to Amanda Bran and Constance Alexander.
"Unfortunately we came out a little flat in doubles but we definitely put up a fight in singles," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "Clare and Sophie played solid and it was great to have Danielle back in the singles lineup. She played a fantastic match that could have gone either way."
The Bulldogs are back in action Saturday in Bozeman against Montana State University at 1 p.m. PT.
