Bulldogs Busy Day Ends With Wins Over Wildcats, Redhawks

SPOKANE, Wash. - It was a busy day for the Gonzaga University women's tennis team Saturday but at the end of the day the Bulldogs claimed a pair of non-conference wins at the Spokane Racquet Club, defeating Linfield College 5-2 and Seattle University 6-1 in the nightcap.
All the Bulldogs (5-9) played a match with Jackie Tabb leading the Bulldogs by winning all three matches she competed. She and Prue Teitzel dominated at No. 2 doubles against Linfield's (6-3) Caroline Brigham and Sophie Larson. Tabb later teamed with Sophie Lantta to win a close battle with Seattle's (2-12) Katrina Schwab and Corinne Wurden at the No. 2 spot to win their 10th match of the year together. Tabb only made one appearance in singles, winning a three set match at the No. 5 position against Wurden.
Danielle Farmer won a pair of matches against the Redhawks. She defeated Gabriella Weissmann at No. 4 singles and with her doubles partner Rika Mehndiratta, the duo cruised to an 8-2 win at the No. 1 position.
Taurie Bjerken also won a pair of matches, all against the Wildcats. Bjerken took a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 5 singles and with Kelly Humphrey they posted an 8-2 victory at No. 3 doubles.
Teitzel, Mehndiratta and Kristina Zauere finished the day each winning their 10th singles match of the season. Zauere beat Schwab 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 2 position and Teitzel beat Seattle's Sarah Lucas 6-1, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot. Mehndiratta posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Seattle's Ariel Ohno at the No. 1 spot.
"It was a good day for us. All 12 players on the roster saw action today," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "I was very happy with how focused the team was today. We have just wrapped up six matches in eight days with a long day of travel also. It was great to see our top three play well today against Seattle U. We are looking forward to next weekend off."
The Bulldogs will play a pair of matches in Portland, Ore., starting with West Coast Conference foe University of Portland March 26 followed by Portland State University March 27.
