Women's Rowing Hosts Washington State Saturday

ON TAP: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team heads to Silver Lake in Medical Lake, Wash., for its second-straight home regatta of the spring season. The Bulldogs will host Washington State University Saturday beginning at 9 a.m.

9:00 a.m.: Novice 8+
9:20 a.m.: Varsity 8+
9:40 a.m.: Second Varsity 8+
10:00 a.m.: Varsity 4+
10:20 a.m.: Second Novice 8+
10:40 a.m.: Second Varsity 4+
LAST TIME AGAINST THE COUGARS: The Gonzaga University women's rowing team battled through heavy crosswinds in 2010 to win two races and place second in two others at its home race versus Washington State University and Western Washington University. The morning started off with back-to-back exciting Zag victories as the Novice 8+ and Second Varsity 4+ pulled out spectacular wins. The Novice 8+ race began the lone Gonzaga home dual of the 2010 season and it did not disappoint. As the boats came into the sightline for the fans, Washington State held a half a boat lead. The Cougars continued to hold the edge, and too many, looked like they were going to earn the win but the Bulldogs final 50 meter spring overcame WSU's boat and they crossed the line with the 7:22.11 victory. Washington State had a time of 7:22.69. The Second Varsity 4+ race was another neck-and-neck race, but with 500-meters to go, Gonzaga started to pull away and finally claimed a three second win with the time of 8:35.08. Washington State finished at 8:38.24. The marquee Varsity 8+ race was a solid outing by all three boats. The Cougars, ranked 10th at the time in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing Top 20, finished the 2,000-meter course with a time of 6:45.78. Gonzaga took second at 6:50.38 and Western Washington was third at 7:00.10.

Take Interstate 90 West to Exit 272 (WA 902) Medical Lake Exit
Turn right onto WA-901 (West Medical Lake Road)
Follow Medical Lake Road 5.25 miles
Turn left onto North Stanley Road (Conoco station at corner)
Follow North Stanley Road for half a mile
Turn right onto East Lake Road
Follow East Lake Road for one block
Turn left onto North Hallett Road
Follow North Hallett Road 2.25 miles
Road ends at Silver Lake Camp
