Bulldogs Beat Eagles To Extend Win Streak To Six

CHENEY, Wash. - The Gonzaga University women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches with an impressive 6-1 victory at Eastern Washington University Wednesday evening.
The Bulldogs improve to 9-9 after sweeping all three doubles matches and posting wins in five singles.
Senior Clare Dodge has an impressive day in both singles and doubles. She earned her 13th win of the season with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 4 singles and with junior Kristina Zauere, they claimed an 8-4 win at No. 2 doubles. After losing the first set 3-6 at No. 3 singles, Zauere fought back after being down 1-4 in the second to force a tiebreaker. She was down 6-9 to start the tiebreaker but won the next five points to win the match.
Senior Jackie Tabb and junior Sophie Lantta turned in an 8-4 victory at No. 3 doubles to extend their winning streak to six matches. Tabb also won her fifth-straight singles match at the No. 6 position with a 6-3, 6-2 victory.
Redshirt sophomore Prue Teitzel picked up a 6-3, 6-4 at No. 2 doubles to extend her winning streak to four matches and senior Rika Mehndiratta cruised to a pair of 6-2 victories at the No. 1 spot. In doubles play, Mehndiratta and senior Danielle Farmer posted an 8-3 victory at the No. 1 position, their eighth win of the season together.
Lantta won the first set of her No. 5 singles match 6-3 but her opponent won the next two 7-5, 1-0 (10-6).
"We played a solid match from top to bottom," Bulldogs head coach D.J. Gurule said. "We came out strong in doubles and stayed focused throughout singles. We are now looking to finish the regular-season strong this weekend."
The Bulldogs wrap up the regular-season in Moscow, Idaho, this weekend. They will play Utah State University Friday at 2 p.m. followed by the University of Idaho Saturday at 2 p.m.
