Glenn Putyrae Announces Four Additions For 2013-14

"I am really excited about this group of early commitments," stated Putyrae. "They all are dedicated to getting a great education, consistently improving, and competing at the highest level. We are looking forward to seeing them develop over the next four years in the competitive culture we have here at Gonzaga. We expect to see all of these athletes contributing to future championship crews."

Hannah Brown was a member of the Second Varsity 8+ that won a gold medal at the 2012 Stotesbury Regatta and placed third at the 2012 Scholastic Rowing Association of America (SRAA) Regatta. In 2011, Brown was part of the Varsity 8+ boat that placed first at the Virginia Scholastic Rowing Championship and took second at Youth Nationals. Her Varsity 8+ was named All-Met by the Washington Post in 2011, and in 2012 her Second Varsity 8+ was named All-Met by the Washington Post. "Hannah is a very efficient rower and is used to competing in a program with the goal of producing the fastest team," explained Putyrae. "Over the last few years James Madison has emerged as one of the best programs in the country, and Hannah has demonstrated an ability to compete with some of their best rowers." | |||

Briana Ledoux attends Holy Names Academy and rows for the Seattle Rowing Center. In 2012, she took first place in the Women's Junior Lightweight Event at the Ergomania Indoor Rowing Championship in Seattle, Wash. She also placed first in the Lightweight Double and in the Lightweight Single at the Northwest Regional Regatta. She went on to place 10th in the Lightweight Double at the Junior Youth National Championship Regatta in Oak Ridge, Tenn. "Briana is another extremely efficient rower," stated Putyrae. "She knows what she wants to accomplish and is willing to do whatever it takes to be successful. She comes from a program where hard work and consistent improvement are expected. We have the same expectation here which is why we knew she was a great fit for our program." | |||

Clare Manthey attends Jesuit High School in Portland, Ore., and rows for the Rose City Rowing Club. She started rowing her junior year and made Rose City's Varsity 8+ boat this past fall and competed at the Head of the Charles Regatta, finishing 18th out of 85 crews. "Clare is relatively new to the sport of rowing but in a short time has demonstrated the ability to compete with our region's best," explained Putyrae. "She will be coming to us from Jesuit High School in Portland, a school from which some of our best rowers have graduated. It's a school with a competitive athletic culture, much like Gonzaga." | |||

Meghan McCallum attends Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Wash., and rows for the Sammamish Rowing Association. She, like Manthey, started rowing her junior season and had the squad's fastest 4k time this past fall. "Meghan is relatively new to the sport of rowing but like all of our rowers she has the internal drive to consistently improve, and that is what we are looking for," said Putyrae. "Meghan has great enthusiasm and a good understanding of what it takes to be a successful rower." | |||
