Women's Rowing Varisty 8+ Places Third In Petite Final

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The Gonzaga University women's rowing team closed out the San Diego Classic Sunday with a third place finish in the Varsity 8+ Petite Final.

Battling a pretty strong cross head wind, the Bulldogs closed out the 2,000-meter course in a time 7:47.54, less than second behind second place finisher Saint Mary's and seven seconds behind Grand Valley who won the race.

"Hats off to Grand Valley and Saint Mary's," said Gonzaga head coach Glenn Putyrae of the Petite Finals top two finishers. "They rowed better than us today.

"Our boat handle the start better than they did in yesterday's heat race and was right in the mix for the first 500-750-meters. How they finished was disappointing though."

Gonzaga now has three weeks to prepare for its next event. The Bulldogs will host Washington State University at Silver Lake in Medical Lake on Saturday, April. 21
