Edwards Takes Second At adidas Open Tennis Championships

PORTLAND, Ore. - Gonzaga University women's tennis player Katie Edwards placed second this past Sunday at the prestigious 2012 adidas Open Tennis Championships presented by Capital Pacific Bank at Irvington Club in Portland, Ore.
Edwards, a sophomore-to-be on the Bulldogs' squad, fell to Suzanne Matzenauer in the championship 6-2; 6-4. Matzenauer, who hails from Tacoma, Wash., plays tennis at Northwestern University.
Edwards earned a spot in the championship by defeating Molly Knox 2-6; 6-2; 6-3 in the round of 16, followed by a 6-0; 6-1 victory over Sierra Troxel in the quarterfinals. Edwards then went on to defeat Sabine Fuchs - who played No. 2 singles at the University of Portland this past season - 6-2; 7-5 in the semifinals.
