SPOKANE, Wash. - Gonzaga University head men's golf coach Robert Gray has announced the signing of two players to national letters of intent. Will Brueckner out of Acalanes High in Walnut Creek, Calif., and David Ganz of Jesuit High in Portland, Ore., will join the Bulldogs in the Fall.
"I'm excited to have Will and David joining our program next fall," stated Gray. "They're great young men, excellent students and have great family support."
Brueckner was the 2013 San Francisco City Amateur Champion and was a Top 5 finisher four times in Future Collegiate World Tour (FCWT) events, including winning the 2013 FCWT Mission Hills Resort with a 36-hole score of 137 (71-66).
A Top 100 Bay Area Athlete during his freshman year, Brueckner was also named to the America Junior Golf Association (AJGA) All-Junior All-Star team. He was the 2011 AJGA Junior All-Stars Champion, and had eight Top 20 finishes at AJGA events. He also won multiple Northern California Golf Association Junior Tour events.
Brueckner is currently ranked 206 in the nation by Golfweek, 92nd in the 2014 class and 14th in the California class of 2014. He holds a 3.9 grade point average and ranks in the top 10 percent academically in his class at Acalanes.
"Will has been playing competitive golf for quite a while and has a lot of tournament experience," explained Gray. "His short game is solid and that gets more important with every level one moves up in golf. He's mostly a self-taught player and has won multiple times on multiple state levels."
Ganz was named First Team Men's Golf OSAA 6A District All-Star his junior season and a 2013 OSAA 6A Season Metro District Medalist with a 71.8 scoring average. He also was a 2013 Oregon Golf Association Tournament of Champions Medalist and finished in the Top 15 of four FCWT events, including a third place finish at the 2012 FCWT Notre Dame. Ganz also placed third at the 2013 Portland City Championship.
He is currently ranked 914th in the nation by Golfweek, 206th in the 2014 class and second in the Oregon class of 2014. Ganz holds a 3.85 grade point average, is a member of the National Honor Society, and an OSAA 6A District Academic All-State.
Ganz also was a USA Gymnastics National Development Team member from 2006-2008 and the 2007 and 2010 USA Gymnastics Men's All-Around Oregon State Champion.
"David has less tournament experience with just a few years of being fully focused on golf, after his time in gymnastics," explained Gray. "His gymnastics experience has taught him the importance of hard work and dedication. He's a fierce competitor, knows what he wants and will work endlessly to achieve his goals."
