Women's Rowing Picked To Win 2013 WCC Championship

SAN BRUNO, Calif. -The Gonzaga University women's rowing team was picked to win the 2013 West Coast Conference Championship as voted on by the leagues seven coaches. The Zags received 34 votes, including four of the seven first place votes, to garner the top position.
The University of San Diego, who is the three-time reigning WCC champions, placed second with 31 votes and earned the three other first place votes. The University of Portland, it just its second year of existence, was picked third with 25 votes, followed by Loyola Marymount University in fourth with 22 votes.
Gonzaga is looking to recapture the WCC championship this season. After winning 12 of 13 titles from 1997-2009, the Zags have placed second for 3-straight years behind the Toreros.
Along with being named preseason favorite, the Zags had four rowers named to the preseason All-West Coast Conference team. Making the list was Naseeb Bhangal, Casey Burt, Madison Keaty, and Malori McGill.
McGill and Keaty were both members of the Varsity 8+ that placed second at the West Coast Conference Championships a season ago, while Bhangal coxed the Varsity 4+ to a WCC victory and Burt was a member of the Second Varsity 8+ that also took first.
