Women's Tennis Drops To #58 Santa Clara

SPOKANE, Wash. - Melanie Yates won her seventh match of the spring but Gonzaga University women's tennis fell to No. 58 Santa Clara University 6-1 Friday at the Spokane Racquet Club.
The Bulldogs fall to 9-11 overall and 0-6 in West Coast Conference matches.
Yates won her match in impressive fashion. After winning the first set 7-6, her opponent Stephanie Skaras took the second 7-5 setting up a the third set that Yates took 10-6. She is 5-5 in the No. 6 position for the Bulldogs.
Playing as the No. 5, Franziska Koehler narrowly won her match that also went to three sets. Koehler fell shy to Delphine Rouvillois 4-6, 7-5, 11-9.
The Bulldogs No. 2 doubles team won its match but the Zags lost the double point.
Yates and Samantha Polayes downed Kelly Lamble and Maggie McGeorge 8-3 to win their seventh match together.
Gonzaga wraps up its regular season Saturday with an 11:00 a.m. contest with the University of San Francisco.
