UNIVERSITY PLACE, Wash. - Gonzaga University men's golf senior-to-be Peter Gullickson tied for 17th at the 87th Washington State Amateur Championship, held at Chambers Bay in University Place, Wash. The championship was conducted by the Washington State Golf Association June 18-20.
Gullickson had rounds of 73-80-77 for a 54-hole score of 230 over the 7,585 yard, par 72 Chambers Bay.
Gullickson and the other 119 amateur golfers from the state had difficulty on the future U.S. Open Site. Of the 120 top amateurs who began the championship, nobody finished under par. Weather conditions made for difficult playing conditions, as the wind picked up for most of the day, coming in off Puget Sound.
The format for the 3-day championship was 54 holes of stroke play. There were 120 players in the field, followed by a cut to 60 and ties after the second round.
Cameron Peck held on in the final round to complete his wire-to-wire victory. Peck finished the 3-day championship with a five-stroke victory with a final score of 216 (69-69-78). Nicholaus Mandell and Ryan Earl tied for second, each finishing with a 221.
