Thomas, Drake, Felnagle Earn USTFCCCA Academic Accolades

NEW ORLEANS - Gonzaga University's Emily Thomas, Lindsey Drake and Brent Felnagle received 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic recognition for the recently-completed track and field season.
The Bulldog men and women also received academic team recognition from the USTFCCCA.
Thomas, who graduated in May and decided to forgo her final year of eligibility to attend graduate school at Regis University in Denver, has a 3.62 GPA in human physiology, Drake a 3.75 GPA in biology and Felnagle a 3.61 in psychology to earn All-Academic recognition. Thomas, from Washougal, Wash., competed in her second straight 10,000 meters at the NCAA West Preliminary Track and Field Meet in Austin, Texas, while Drake (senior, Carlsbad, Calif.) in the 5,000 meters and Felngale (sophomore, Tacoma, Wash.) in the 1500 meters made their inaugural appearance this past May.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Gonzaga's women earned All-Academic Team honors with a 3.43 GPA, one of 187 women's track and field teams honored. The Bulldog men posted a 3.2 GPA and were one of 111 teams recognized. Teams must carry a 3.00 cumulative GPA to make the list.
