Bulldogs In The Mix At UM Gopher Invitational

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Strong performances all around helped pave the way for another impressive day for the Gonzaga University women's tennis team Saturday at the University of Minnesota Gopher Invitational.
The morning opened with doubles actoin as Kylie Peek and Samantha Polayes looked to build on their day one victory. Unfortunately the duo fell 8-6 to Kylie Haviland and Jieke Stroobant of Northern Iowa University. The pair redeemed themselves and took its second match 8-5 over University of Wisconsin's Pernilla Wohlstrom and Anastasia Tripolskaya.
With the win, Peek and Polayes will play Sunday for a chance to claim fifth place in the Maroon Flight against Minnesota's Aria Lambert and Kelsey Frechette.
Isabell Klingert and Franziska Koelher wrapped up their doubles action of the weekend to capture third place in the Gopher Flight. The tandem dropped its first match Saturday 8-3 to University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Dana Shannon and Aerielle Pendleton but came back strong to down Iowa State University's Emma Waites and Caroline Andersen 8-4.
Klingert, who has not dropped a singles match in the Maroon Flight, will play in the Finals Sunday after her 7-5, 4-6, 1-0 (1) victory over Daphne Friedrichs (Eastern Michigan University). Franziska Koehler also won her match over Maria Paula Ribero (Eastern Michigan) 6-4, 6-2 and will play for fifth place Sunday.
Also in singles, Polayes advanced in her lone match over Helen Rabot (Wisconsin) 6-4, 6-2. Sunday she will play for fifth place in the "U" Flight at 10 a.m. Peek, also in the "U" Flight, will play for 11th.
The final day of the Gopher Invitational is Sunday with one round of singles and doubles will be played.
