SPOKANE, Wash.—After a few weeks off to catch up on school and work on their games, the members of the Gonzaga University women's golf team are ready to start play at the Edean Ihlanfeldt Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 7, held at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash.
"We always look forward to playing Sahalee Country Club," said Gonzaga head coach Brad Rickel. "It is an amazing golf course that demands discipline and accuracy. The field is always tough here and we will be looking to compete with some of the best teams in the country."
There will be one current top 10 team at Sahalee this weekend, as No. 4 Stanford is one of the teams scheduled to compete. Host school Washington, however, ended last season ranked sixth by Golfweek but has yet to play this fall.
Four more squads in the field are ranked among the top 50, including the Zags, who check in at No. 27 according to Golfweek. The Zags are coming off two strong showings, placing fifth at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic and taking seventh in the tough Branch Law Firm/Dick McGuire Invitational.
Raychelle Santos, who will be the lead golfer for Gonzaga, has the lowest stroke average on the squad at 72.83 shots per round. Ciera Min, the Zags' second golfer at Sahalee, is next with 73.50 strokes. Both have a top 10 finish this year as Santos tied for third and Min tied for ninth at the Ram Classic to begin the season.
Rounding out the Zags' tournament lineup, senior Alice Kim is third, freshman Dania Uy is fourth, and junior Angela De Villa is the squad's No. 5 player.
Gonzaga will begin the Edean Ihlanfeld Invitational at 9:00 a.m. on hole No. 1. They'll play one more round Tuesday afternoon and wrap up the competition with a single round on Wednesday, Oct. 8.
