
Freshmen Collect Victories At Sam Adams Classic

SPOKANE, Wash. — Max Kaderabek and Henry Morris finished first in the 5,000 meters and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, respectively, to pace the Gonzaga track team during the Sam Adams Classic on Saturday at Whitworth University.
Kaderabek, a freshman from San Diego, dominated the field, winning the men's 5k by more than 21 seconds. His time of 15:32.82 topped his previous season best by nearly 17 seconds.
Morris, also a freshman, edged fellow Zag Alec Temple in the men's steeplechase. Morris broke the tape in 9:50.78, less than eight seconds ahead of Temple, who finished second.
Led by Scott Davis' second-place result, GU runners claimed five of the top-10 spots in the men's 1,500 meters. Davis, a redshirt junior from Spokane's Ferris High, ran a season best 3:59.84.
Davis also helped the Bulldogs claim four of the top eight slots in the men's 800 meters. Davis finished fifth at 1:59.50, while Kyle Branch, running unattached, came in fourth at 1:59.50.
Lauren Saunders produced the highest finish for the Gonzaga women. The freshman from Lake Tapps, Wash., placed fourth in her 400-meter debut after running 1:02.37.
Meghan Blanchet also collected a top-10 result, placing ninth in the women's 5,000 meters. The Tacoma, Wash., native finished with a time of 19:11.58.
The Bulldogs return to the track Saturday, April 12, when they compete in WAR VII. That meet starts at 10 a.m. at Spokane Falls Community College.
