Five Zags Earn WCC Women's Rowing All-Academic Accolades

SAN BRUNO, Calif. - Five members of the Gonzaga University women's rowing team have received West Coast Conference All-Academic Team recognition. Three Bulldogs received first-team honors, while two were tabbed honorable mention.

Earning first-team honors were seniors Naseeb Bhangal, Madison Keaty and Malori McGill. Bhangal, the Bulldog Female Scholar Athlete of the Year, carries a 3.95 GPA in psychology, Keaty has a 3.73 GPA in sport management and McGill earned a 3.78 GPA in business. All three first-team honorees earned the academic achievement for the second-consecutive season.

Senior Sarah Atkins and classmate Jordan Schroeder earned honorable mention accolades. Atkins, a first-team honoree in 2013, carries a 3.66 GPA in nursing and Schroeder holds a 3.56 GPA in biology.

Four of the five rowers - Atkins, Bhangal, Keaty and McGill - were part of the Varsity 8+ boat that placed second at the WCC Championship Saturday. Schroeder coxed the Second Varsity 8+ to a second place finish as well at the WCC Championship.

Keaty and McGill also garnered All-WCC honors after their performances at the league championship.

At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, and prove as a significant contributor to her team.
