- He served as the only coach in the history of the men's golf program until 2003. In his time with the men's golf program, Ross led the Roos to a pair of Mid-Continent Conference runner-up finishes including the 2001-02 season in which he coached current UMKC Director of Golf J.W. VanDenBorn.
- After 35 years at the helm, Ross retired in 2003. He has since been inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2007 and was a member of the 2009 class of inductees into the UMKC Athletics Hall of Fame. The Bill Ross Intercollegiate was started in his honor in 2005.
