ABOUT THE MEET:
- The University of Washington cross country program will host the 2015 NCAA West Regional.
- Thirty-two men's teams and 37 women's teams, every top squad in the West, will be on hand to race for a spot on the starting line of the NCAA Championships.
COURSE INFORMATION:
- Jefferson Park Golf Course consists of multiple 2k loops on flat fairways crossing some cart paths.
- The course was the site of the 2010 Pac-10 Championships, the USATF Club Nationals, the NCAA West Regional Championships in 2012, and the Washington Invitational beginning in 2014.
- Forecasts call for 100 percent chance of rain during the race. Temperatures will be in the low-50s with 20 mile per hour wind.
WELL LOOK WHO'S RANKED:
- The Gonzaga women entered the national poll for the first time in program history at No. 30.
- The Zag women rose to No. 5 in the latest West Region ranking, their highest ranking in program history.
- The GU men climbed to No. 10 in the West Region.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS:
- For the first time in 20 years, and only the second time in program history, the Gonzaga University women's cross country team are the West Coast Conference Champions.
- The Zags' claimed the 2015 crown, led by a first place individual finish from Shelby Mills.
- Gonzaga finished tied with BYU with 59 points, but the Bulldogs won the tiebreaker.
- The Zags were picked fourth in the conference's preseason poll, while BYU was the favorite.
CONFERENCE ACCOLADES ABOUND:
- Following their conference title, GU women's Head Coach Patty Ley was named the 2015 WCC women's Cross Country Coach of the Year. She became the first Zag to receive that honor since Kevin Swaim in 2000.
- Shelby Mills, Jessica Mildes, and Jordan Thurston were all named All-WCC with their finishes.
- Troy Fraley's ninth place finish placed him on the men's All-WCC team.
HENLING AND MILDES NAMED ACADEMIC ALL-WCC:
- Julie Henling and Jessica Mildes were named to the 2015 West Coast Conference Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team. Mildes boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA, while Henling has an impressive 3.98 GPA.
- Shelby Mills and Jordan Thurston were both named honorable mention.
MILLS NAMED CONFERENCE RUNNER OF THE MONTH:
- Shelby Mills was named the West Coast Conference Runner of the Month.
- Mills led the Gonzaga women to their first WCC title in 20 years with a first place individual finish at the conference championships.
- She became only the second GU runner to ever win a WCC cross country title. Cheska Fairbanks was the last in 1996.
SEATTLE'S BEST:
- The Gonzaga women and men already had success on the Jefferson Golf Course earlier this season.
- The GU men had eight new entries into their program's all-time 8,000-meter top-20 list after the Washington Invitational.
- Troy Fraley was seven seconds off of the school record with a time of 23:39. Kyle Branch and Matthew Crichlow also ran top-five times.
- Overall, the GU men had 11 new 8K PR's at the UW Invitational.
- On the women's side, Jessica Mildes and Jordan Thurston ran the second and fourth fastest 6,000-meter times in program history.
