
Gonzaga Women Climb in Final National Ranking

NEW ORLEANS -- The Gonzaga women's cross country team continues to break new ground for its building program. The Zags rose to No. 27 in the final U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) ranking of the season.
The Gonzaga women head to the 2015 NCAA Div. I National Championships for the first time as a team in program history Saturday. It will enter as the 31-team field as the country's 27th-ranked team. Last week, the Bulldogs cracked the national poll for the first time in program history at No. 30.
"It has been a great year and this is just another piece to it," GU women's Head Coach Patty Ley said. "The last number that will count is where we end on Saturday afternoon. We're looking forward to racing with some great teams!"
The Zag women placed sixth at the NCAA West Regionals in Seattle Friday. They entered the race fifth in the region and 30th in the country, both program highs. The 2015 West Coast Conference champions were paced by a seventh-place finish by Shelby Mills.
Both the Zag women and men had their lowest point totals in their respective program histories at the regional championships. Matthew Crichlow placed 18th and received an at-large invitation to the national championships. He is the first-ever men's GU qualifier.
The women's 6K race begins at 9 a.m. Pacific Time Saturday. The men's 10K race follows at 10 a.m. Live video and results will be available on GoZags.com.
