Nov. 5, 2015 SAN BRUNO, Calif. -- Gonzaga women's cross country student-athletes Julie Henling and Jessica Mildes were named to the 2015 West Coast Conference Women's Cross Country All-Academic Team.
Henling and Mildes made the conference's All-Academic team, while Shelby Mills and Jordan Thurston were both named honorable mention. Mildes boasts a perfect 4.00 GPA as an Accounting major, while Henling has an impressive 3.98 GPA with a major in English.
Mildes was named All-Conference after her third place finish at the WCC Championships. She ran the second-fastest 6,000-meter time in program history with a time of 20:25.3 at the Washington Invitational earlier this season. Henling broke the program's 4,000-meter course record with a season-opening 13:58.9 at the Clash of the Inland Northwest. She then ran the ninth-fastest time in GU history at the Bill Dellinger Invitational with a time of 21:21.6.
All 10 members on the team received the honor for the first time. This season, 31 nominated women's cross country student-athletes posted a GPA of 3.50 or better, 20 of which recorded a mark of 3.75 or higher, three posted a perfect 4.00 GPA.
The 2015 WCC individual champion, Mills, has a 3.3.5 GPA. The Biology major owns the school record on a 6,000-meter course at 20:06.1. She was tabbed honorable mention Academic All-WCC last season as well. Thurston placed seventh at the WCC Championships, earning All-Conference recognition. She ran the fourth-fastest time in program history at the Washington Invitational with a time of 20:30.5. The sophomore business major has a 3.93 GPA.
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average, while also being a significant contributor to her team.
