SPOKANE, Wash. â€" Former Gonzaga men's golfers, Sean Walsh and Brandon Crick, are going through Web.com Tour qualifying.
Both Walsh and Crick advanced through the first stage recently, and move on to the second stage of qualifying in early November.
Walsh tied for eighth in a field of 76 golfers at the Southern Dunes Golf Club in Maricopa, Ariz. He finished the four-round tournament at 12-under (276). The Keller, Texas native, carded a 64 (-8) in the first round and was the top amateur finisher. After a 74 (+2) in Round 2, he had back-to-back rounds of 69 (-3) in the third and fourth rounds.
Walsh graduated last spring from Gonzaga as the program's record holder for lowest season scoring average (71.50 in 2015-16) and lowest career scoring average (73.17).
Crick, which played at GU from 2006-08, tied for 11th on the ArborLinks course in Nebraska City, Neb. He finished the event at seven-under (281). After an opening round 72, the McCook, Neb. native, had a 69 (-3) in Round 2 and rounds of 70 (-2) in the third and fourth rounds.
Crick had a scoring average of 73.18 in his two seasons at GU. He was the West Coast Conference Freshman of the Year in 2007. Crick recorded nine career top-10 finishes at Gonzaga.
The Web.com Tour Qualifying Tournament is the premier way to gain status on the following year's Web.com Tour.
Each year, several worthy players take their shot at advancing through pre-qualifying, First Stage and Second Stage at various sites across the country -- all leading up to Final Stage, which will be held this year at Orange County National in Winter Garden, Florida, from December 8-11.
Players who advance to Final Stage are assured a Web.com Tour card for the following season, and the top 45 finishers (and ties) at Final Stage are assured a healthy number of starts in the first part of the 2017 Web.com Tour season.
